The 5Dimes Favorite To Win The World Series: Houston Astros +480

Can you think of a more powerful starting rotation? Led by surefire hall of famer Justin Verlander, the Astros boast 4, maybe 5, aces. Charlie Morton, Lance McCullers Jr., Gerrit Cole, and Dallas Kuechel would be aces for almost any other team.

That’s what makes Houston so dangerous to repeat as World Series Champions, their pitching. Sure, they might be the best hitting club in MLB. But, it’s their pitching that could take them to the top again. They’d be the first team to do so since the Yankees’ three-peat from 1998 through 2000.

Houston has a shot, no doubt. Are they a good wager at +475? History means something in baseball. Those Yankee teams were miles better than their competitors. The Astros are only 5 games ahead of Seattle in the AL West as of July 15. I’ll pass on the short odds.

The Sharp Pick To Win The World Series: Chicago Cubs +700

Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon didn’t just want to end the Curse of the Goat. They wanted to build a team that challenged for the World Series every year. They’ve done so because the 2018 Chicago Cubs are really good.

Yu Darvish in a Cubs’ uniform has been mostly a miss, but no worries. Jon Lester has been his usual stellar self. Kyle Hendricks has turned into a decent starter. Both Lester and Hendricks are pitching well, but the real reason to like the Cubs is because Jose Quintana has immensely improved since April. Quintana now has a sub-.400 ERA.

The Cubs have responded to Quintana. They’ve gone 7 and 3 in Jose’s last 10 starts. If Quintana keeps it up, the Cubbies will have a big shot for World Series rings again. We know this team can hit.

The Longshot Pick To Win The World Series: Cleveland Indians +1275

Cleveland offers excellent value at 12.75 to 1 to win the World Series. Pitcher Corey Kluber has been his usual Cy Young Award winning form self. He remains one of the Top 5 most dominant pitchers in baseball.

The real reason I like Cleveland as a longshot play is because they’ve got a comfortable 8 game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central. I also like how they split with the Yankees in a recent four game series.

Those are signs that the Tribe will be a tough out in the playoffs.
