The defending NBA champions have been the favorite to repeat all season long. Standing in their way are the Houston Rockets who were built to beat The Warriors. 5Dimes NBA oddsmakers aren’t hopeful at the Rockets odds as Golden State is a favorite to win another Western Conference Final.

Both teams out of the West arrived at the NBA playoff final four has been mundane compared to the East. Cleveland dealt with three different starting lineups. Boston lost their top two off-season acquisitions. Both beat teams with ju-ju and now face-off in a best-of-seven series.

The Boston Celtics exit from the playoffs last season prompted a rebuild of sorts. The Celtic brain-trust tore apart a team that won 53 games and earned the No. 1 seed in the East. They boldly traded the No. 1 pick in the draft and star Isaiah Thomas was shipped off to Cleveland. They added top-free agent Gordon Hayward and disgruntled from living in the king’s shadow Kyrie Irving.

It didn’t help. Hayward broke his tibia and dislocated his ankle a single minute into his first game as a Celtic. Lost for the season. Irving began his tenure in Boston with a bang, but lingering knee issues from a 2015 surgery shut down his season in March.

The Celtics face the defending East champion Cleveland Cavaliers who also had a tumultuous season. Isaiah Thomas started the season on the sideline after joining the team in exchange for Kyrie. When he finally made it to the starting lineup, Thomas never found his spot. He was finally traded to the Lakers for a handful of role players. The Cavs sputtered without Irving. Kevin Love was inconsistent. Coach Tyronn Lue battled health issues and stepped away. Then the playoffs started. It may not have been a smooth start, but the Cavs got their sh*t together to vanquished the East-leading Raptors in four straight.

Which four will battle for the NBA title in the final round? We find out when the West and East finals start this weekend.
