2018 World Cup Golden Boot Odds & Picks

2018 Golden Boot Odds & Picks

The 2018 World Cup kicks off later this week bringing the world’s best footballers for the greatest sporting event in the world. From the world’s elite players who will win the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot? Neymar and Messi are at the top of the 5Dimes Golden Boot betting board. But is there a smart or long shot pick you should look at before you bet? Let’s find out.

2018 World Cup Golden Boot Odds & Picks

Favorite Pick: Lionel Messi +1000

The greatest soccer player since Pelé, Argentinian Lionel Messi, is also a favorite to score more goals than any other player in this year’s World Cup. Messi is a creating, scoring, absolute force of nature. He can do it all on the soccer field.

How great of a goal scorer is Messi? In 32 appearances with Barcelona, he scored 34 goals. He also added 12 assists. Those aren’t just great stats. Those are unbelievable stats! Why? Messi plays on the same team as Uruguay’s Luis Suarez. Suarez is considered one of the very best goal scorers in the world. For Messi to score 34 goals in 32 La Liga appearances this year says something.

But, scoring goals in club play doesn’t always translate to scoring goals in the World Cup. I’m not siding with Messi to win the Golden Boot.

Smart Pick: Romelu Lukaku +1800

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku wasn’t as great of a goal scorer with his club team, Manchester United, as Messi was with his club team. No worries. Lukaku can light it up on any given day. The reason he didn’t score as many goals as Messi did is because he simply didn’t play on as good of a team. 32 La Liga appearances this year says something.

He will in the 2018 World Cup. Another reason to absolutely love Lukaku’s chances of scoring goals is because the man passing the soccer ball to him, Kevin de Bruyne, is the Chris Paul of soccer.

Longshot Pick: Edinson Cavani +2500

Both Uruguayan strikers Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez are listed at +2500 to win the Golden Boot in this year’s World Cup. Of the two, the better play is Edinson Cavani. Cavani scored 28 goals in 30 appearances with Paris St. Germain. The reason that’s important is because Brazilian great Neymar also plays for Paris St. Germain. Cavani is used to playing off a superstar. He could do so to the most goals in the World Cup.
