College Football National Title Odds, Betting Favorites, Contenders, Sleepers & Long Shots

The 2019 college football season officially begins on Saturday, Aug. 24. Until then, each team has the same record. However, not all teams are created equally. So which teams are the real title contenders entering 2019? Click here for updated college football futures. Keep reading for my list of college football teams that have a legitimate shot at the title this season sorted into four betting tiers: favorites, contenders, sleepers and long shots.

College Football National Title Odds & Betting Tiers

The quest for the upcoming College Football National Title concludes on January 13th, 2020 with the College Football Playoff National Championship game in New Orleans. Let’s find out which teams have the best odds to be there.

College Football National Title Betting Favorites

I bet you didn’t even have to finish reading that title before thinking Alabama and Clemson. After five years of the College Football Playoff, the two are the perennial College Football title betting favorites. These two have met in the CFP four times, splitting those four meetings. Both of Clemson’s wins came in the CFP National Championship, including last season’s thriller.

  • Alabama +220
  • Clemson +240
  • Georgia +900

Joining the duo and standing in Bama’s way for a third straight is Georgia who lost the 2017 College Football National Title game in overtime.

College Football National Title Contenders

  • Michigan +1600
  • Ohio State +1600
  • Oklahoma +1600

Ohio State won the 2014 College Football National Title Game. Oklahoma has reached the CFP three times, including each of the last two years. The problem is that the Sooners have yet to win a playoff game.

College Football National Title Sleepers

  • LSU +2500
  • Texas +3000

Both LSU and Texas can win their respective conferences in 2019. The Tigers have to beat Alabama for the first time since 2011. Meanwhile, the Longhorns will have to tangle with Oklahoma this year. Plus both teams will have to go through each other during the season. A single loss by either team will drop them out of CFP contention.

College Football National Title Long Shots

  • Notre Dame +6000
  • USC +15000

Notre Dame went undefeated in the regular season last year only to have their College Football National Title dreams be steamrolled by Clemson in last year’s Cotton Bowl. Without a conference title game to play, the Fighting Irish will have to go perfect in 2019 again to be in the CFP conversation. However, with road games against Georgia and Michigan, that may require more luck than the Irish have.

USC is the definition of a College Football National Title long shot, but the Trojan roster is loaded with talent. And talent with a dash of luck has crowned many a champion. The team is also in the PAC-12 that is without an obvious conference winner. USC could make its CFP case to the committee by winning the PAC-12 without more than a single loss.
