Who will be 2018’s first draft pick? Who will be the first QB chosen? First running back?
5Dimes NFL Draft Prop Odds & Analysis
The three day 2018 NFL Draft extravaganza kicks-off on Thursday, April 26, 8 p.m. ET with Round 1 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. culminating with Round 7 on Saturday, April 28th.
Who Will Be Drafted First Overall In 2018?
Sam Darnold, QB, USC -260
5Dimes oddsmakers and the majority of analysts believe that Darnold is the best QB in a very deep QB draft class. He does need some polishing, but there isn’t much that he can’t do on the field.
The biggest knock on the oddsmaker’s favorite to go tops in the 2018 NFL draft is an abundance of turnovers. But plenty of elite QBs turn over the ball. Think Andrew Luck and Matt Ryan.
Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming +200
Allen has a prototypical QB frame (6-foot-5, 237 pounds) and a cannon for an arm. That just doesn’t come around often. He’s also mobile for his size.
He has improved his draft day stock immensely in the pre-draft process. He has impressed scouts, GM and analysts alike. He is mentally ready to be a top draft pick and franchise QB. That’s a lot for a kid that grew up on a cantaloupe farm, spent two years at Reedley College in California and was a two-year starter at Wyoming.
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State +750
Barkley is the only player that will make the team that drafts him instantly better. He is projected a top-five pick and if that holds true he’ll be the 11th running back to go that early since 2000.
The former Nittany Lion averaged 16.7 rushes per game during his 2017 season at Penn State with 4.2 receptions and 1.2 kickoff returns. Barkley can transform a team like Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott have over the past few seasons.
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA +1500
Any other season, Rosen would be the clear-cut top pick to be drafted first overall. He is a prototypical pocket passer and comes from a pro-style system at UCLA. He’s been compared to Aaron Rodgers.
Rosen’s biggest knock on the field is his mobility outside of the pocket. His off the field critics label him as cocky and jerkish. An overly opinionated rich kid who’s too smart and has too many outside interests for his own good. Sounds like a franchise QB to me.
Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma +3000
Mayfield is the most experienced QB expected to go in the first round. He is also the most accurate on tape. He is a born leader and has a passion for the game that is infectious.
He is smaller than his contemporaries at 6-foot, 215 pounds. No QB other than Jared Goff has succeeded at a high level in the NFL coming from a spread offense like Mayfield played in at Oklahoma.
Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State +3000
Chubb is the best pass rusher of 2018. He has a prototypical build, plays a lot of snaps, has some experience in coverage and many have compared him to Terrell Suggs. There is no reason why he won’t be the top defensive player picked in the 2018 NFL draft.
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama +10000
The team that drafts Fitzpatrick can play him at corner or safety right out of the gate. He is an active run stopper who has an NFL build, closes well and plays with an edge. He’s at his best lining up over the slot and playing close to the line of scrimmage.
Expect Fitzpatrick to be a top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
