2018 5Dimes’ U.S. Open Betting Favorite: Dustin Johnson +800

The No. 1 golfer in the world further claimed his stake as the US Open favorite after a six-shot win at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic.

“Winning this week, I think, is a bigger confidence booster than being number one in the world,” he said. “For me, playing the way I did all week, playing the way I did today knowing everything that was on the line, gives me a lot of confidence going into next week. I think it was a big win, it was a big statement by myself and I’m proud of the way I played, the way I handled it.”

Now Dustin Johnson faces a 7,500-yard par 70 course that seems designed specifically for him. DJ ranks 1st in both Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and SG: Off-the-Tee. On top of that, he is in the top 10 in driving distance.

2018 U.S. Open Smart Pick: Justin Thomas +1380

J.T. was heading into the U.S. Open as the top-ranked golfer in the world. He would have been the seventh No. 1 player in the world in the last seven U.S. Opens. Then DJ lit up Memphis last week.

Thomas will be playing with an edge to regain his top ranking. He’s a better pick over guys like Rory, Spieth, Day and Fowler for simply that reason.

2018 U.S. Open Long Shot Pick: Tiger Woods +2300

Tiger Woods has won three U.S. Opens in his career. Can he win his fourth at Shinnecock? Woods has played some his best golf in a long time this year. He has drastically improved his short game. The fairways are wider this year. If he hits the ball strong from the tee Woods can be dangerous.
